How to Search Alta Vista
- Put the title of the tune (or the artist's name or the type of music) which you are looking for in place of
"pink panther"
. Keep the quotes.
- Incomplete tune names will give you more links (ie. "pink panther" instead of "pink panther theme")
- All lower-case will give you more links.
- Since some pages with MIDI files only give filenames and not tune names, also try abbreviated forms. (ie. "pink", "pnkpanth", "panth", etc.)
- Note that this will only search for .mid files. To also search for .zip files, replace the above search string with this.
"pink panther" AND (link:zip OR link:mid)
With this search string, you'll possibly also get pages offering ZIP files, which are not ZIP files of MIDI files.
- Note that this will only search web pages and not FTP sites which also have large collections of MIDI files. Use
filez.com
to search FTP sites.
How to Search Hotbot
- Put the title of the tune you are looking for in place of
pink panther
. Don't use quotes.
- Most of the advice given for Alta Vista also applies to Hotbot.
- Your search will probably be most successful using the default settings. However, try some of the options if you get no results.
- Alta Vista seems to give better results and also produces faster-downloading "fat-free" pages.
- Hotbot may have different pages in its database, so try it if Alta Vista can't find what you are looking for.
